AMR Patient Advocacy Organisation | AMR Action UK

Campaigning & Advocacy

AMR is not a distant threat. It is already causing significant harm to many thousands of people in the UK, and at AMR Action UK we believe urgent, immediate action can help prevent further suffering.

Advocacy

Our legitimacy as an advocacy organisation comes from our deep understanding of the issues that matter most to patients. We know this through our support services, our patient-centred research and our patient empowerment work.

While some solutions depend on global action and the development of new antibiotics and other treatment therapies, there are urgent, practical steps we can take right here, right now, to reduce risks to patients. That is where our focus lies. By taking targeted actions today, we can stop the spread of “superbugs”, reduce the risk of serious illness, and ensure that people get the right treatment at the right time. These actions are about protecting lives today through practical, immediate changes in the NHS and government policy.

We combine what we learn from our patient and carer communities with our extensive knowledge of the UK political and NHS landscapes, to advocate for the changes that will make the most difference to people at risk of resistant infections or suffering the long-term impacts of having experienced AMR.

Campaigns

From ignored to empowered.

Anyone can get an infection that is resistant to medications used to treat it, but these infections are not gender neutral.

Gender shapes who gets antibiotics, how quickly health issues are taken seriously, and who shoulders unpaid caring roles. Women must be listened to, supported in their own care journeys, and fully involved in shaping the UK’s response to infections that are resistant to medications.

At AMR Action UK, we provide support for individual women, and bring their lived experience to the centre of policy and research on this issue. We make sure the women affected are heard. We help them go from ignored to empowered.

If you believe women’s voices should shape the fight against drug-resistant infections, please support our work – find out more below.

Fighting Superbugs. Protecting Patients.

Antibiotics are a safety net we expect to depend on throughout our lives.

We rely on them to treat everyday infections and to survive operations. When infections become resistant to the medication used to treat them, these everyday situations become much more complicated to manage; sometimes life-threatening.

That’s exactly what’s happening right now, across the UK. Resistant infections, caused by “superbugs “ that don’t respond to antibiotics, contribute to over 35,000 deaths in the UK a year and many more people experience their life-altering complications.

But this isn’t inevitable. While some solutions depend on the development of new antibiotics and other treatment therapies, there are urgent, practical steps we can take, right here, right now, to reduce risks to patients and prevent further suffering.

AMR Action UK is working to influence policy-makers, and NHS leaders, to create the changes that patients deserve.

We fight for cleaner hospitals

We fight for the right to better, quicker, diagnostic testing

We fight so that patients get the right dose of antibiotic

#JoinTheFight

We can’t win this fight on our own. We need your help to continue to Fight Superbugs and Protect Patients.

Help us spread the word and ensure that every elected politician, and every NHS leader, understands the devastating impact of superbugs, and what can be done, right here, right now, to save lives and reduce harm.

Follow us on social media at the links below, share our messages, spread the word, and be part of the change.

We are a small national charity doing amazing work to fight superbugs and protect patients, but with very limited resources. Even a small donation will help. If you would like to help us #Fund the fight, please visit our fundraising page now.
