Patient Empowerment
AMR Action UK is passionate about harnessing the lived experience of patients and carers to make real change happen. Our Patient empowerment work supports this aim.
National Patient Insight Panels
What Are National Patient Insight Panels?
In 2025, we launched our first Patient Panels – a new way for people affected by AMR to directly influence policy and practice in their area of the UK.
In 2026, we’re expanding the programme across all four UK nations: England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
National Patient Insight Panels provide an opportunity to:
- Join a national network of patients and caregivers
- Meet regularly to share insights on particular topics
- Influence AMR-related policy in England and each of the devolved nations.
- Influence practice change in each of the four UK NHS systems
At AMR Action UK we value the time and expertise of our panel members. All Panel members receive a small honorarium for their contribution.
Who Can Join?
Anyone affected by AMR—whether as a patient, caregiver, or family member.
Our panels are open to everyone, regardless of background, identity, or circumstances. We particularly welcome voices that are often underrepresented, including individuals from racially and ethnically diverse communities.

Bespoke Patient Engagement and Partnerships
As the UK’s leading patient charity for antimicrobial resistance (AMR), we are committed to putting patients at the heart of research and innovation. Our bespoke services support organisations to incorporate Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) in both their research and commercial projects.
We offer flexible solutions, from sharing opportunities with our networks to delivering fully facilitated workshops. Our team can identify suitable participants, including any specific requirements based on demographics, medical conditions and diversity—saving you time while ensuring compliance with GDPR and quality standards under bespoke agreements.
What we can help with:
- Recruitment of participants across all UK countries, communities, and groups
- Representation that reflects diversity and inclusion
- Fully facilitated workshops – online or in person
- Letters of support for research projects aligned with our mission
Pricing is transparent and is based on time commitment, participant numbers, staff time and overheads, with flexibility where possible.
We follow national reimbursement guidelines for patients and caregivers who participate in projects.
By partnering with us, organisations gain access to trusted patient voices and streamlined processes that reduce effort while guaranteeing quality. Together, we can shape research that truly reflects patient needs.

Patient Ambassadors
AMR Action UK is a small charity with enormous ambitions to change the UK landscape, across all four nations, for the benefit of people at risk of resistant infections and living with the devastating consequences of having experienced AMR.
Our Patient Ambassadors extend our resources and, in doing so, help us to reach even more decision-makers and leverage even more change. They are specially selected and trained patient reps with all of the backing of AMR Action UK behind them. Once trained to speak on our behalf they can represent AMR Action:
- On-line, in socials and in media, as part of pre-arranged campaign activity
- In meetings with people who can make real change happen, such as politicians and NHS leaders
- At conferences, not as a single patient voice, but representing a whole patient community.
There’s no single path to becoming an Ambassador, but for people who’ve been affected by AMR, and want to make a difference for others we are always happy to have an informal discussion.
